The road is high narrow and spectacular between Lorne and Apollo Bay.  It then heads inland through forest and farmland to the famous 12 Apostles.

Great Ocean Walk

One of the state’s newest parks this one stretches over 100 km from Apollo Bay to within sight of the 12 Apostles. You walk through cool forest and deserted beaches. It’s easy to do day walks or carry your gear and stay overnight at designated camping spots with great facilities provided by Parks Victoria.

Cape Otway LIghtstation - 30 Mins from Apollo Bay

Visit the oldest Lightstation on mainland Australia, in operation since 1848, saving the lives of sailors in this treacherous part of the Southern ocean and Bass Strait. You can climb to the top and get a view over spectacular ocean to see passing whales and ships. Visit Cape Otway Lightstation

Koalas at Kennett River

For anyone who’s never seen koalas in the wild this is a MUST see. Turn off at Kennet River village, then turn left into the Grey River road at the General Store. Drive for about half a kilometer and start looking out for koalas in the trees. You can often see them eating or fast asleep in trees quite close to the road.  Also see Koalas on the road to the Cape Otway Lightstation.

Turtons Track: Forest & Waterfall Drive

This stunning 109km (2 1/2hour excluding stops) loop drive takes in Apollo Bay, Cape Otway, Lavers Hill, and Beech Forest. Possible stops include the Cape Otway Lightstation, Great Otway National Park, Otway Fly Treetop Walk, waterfalls, rainforest walks and galleries.

Lake Elizabeth - Forrest

Melba Gully Forest Walk - 40 Minutes from Apollo Bay

Melba Gully is a small surviving remnant of dense rainforest in the Great Otway National Park just past Cape Otway. The towering ancient trees drip with moss and giant tree ferns appear to hide prehistoric animals. This atmospheric park is a lovely place for family picnics and bushwalks.

If you can visit in the evening Melba Gully rewards you with the light show of a large colony of glow worms dancing along the walking track. Visit Melba Gull
